The manager of a small seaside hotel asks Train to Gain skills broker Catherine Owens for advice.
I run a small hotel in a popular seaside town. With so many hotels to compete against, I want to ensure our guests return to us on a regular basis. What can I do to improve the service we offer?
One of the easiest ways to improve the running of your hotel is through high customer service levels. Investing time and effort in training will boost your employees’ enthusiasm and willingness to accept more responsibility at work. Training will also enhance your staff’s day-to-day dealings with guests and help your hotel to offer a better service. Guests will be more likely to return and recommend your hotel to their friends.
Running a hotel is very demanding and I appreciate that one of your main concerns may be that investing in training is too costly and time-consuming. However, the Learning and Skills Council’s Train to Gain service is on hand to help.
As part of Train to Gain, a skills broker will visit your hotel at no cost and help assess your business needs. Your skills broker will then suggest relevant training options as well as point out any funding for which you may be eligible. The advice offered will be tailored to your individual business needs, so perhaps a Level 2 or 3 qualification in Team Leading may be a good starting point for some of your staff. As well as helping to source possible training providers, some courses can be completed on-site to ensure minimum disruption to your business.
Using Train to Gain couldn’t be easier. It will help to give your hotel the edge it needs to improve its rating and allow it to outlast the competition.
