The Challenge
The pace of change in the specialist label manufacturing and printing sector is fast. A quick, flexible service is essential, and Label Apeel was determined to keep up by investing in workforce development. The company wanted to offer relevant vocational and academic courses to staff, preferably provided in the workplace, but it had a wide range of people at different levels of learning and skills development.
The Solution
The company was introduced to the Employer Training Pilot – the scheme which has now developed into the new national Train to Gain service – by North Warwickshire and Hinckley College. Advisers looked at what training staff needed to keep their skills up-to-date. The training needs analysis showed staff of every age and all sorts of competencies, and suggested different types of training which would make accessing learning possible for everyone – be they print finisher or production director.
Now eight staff are taking the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) through an online training facility in the workplace, and three are undertaking Essential Skills in Numeracy to improve their maths.
The Results
Label Apeel is delighted with the implementation and effect of the scheme:
