- Company profile:
- Dyer Environmental Controls, based in Cheadle, supplies individual ventilation solutions across a range of industries, from the public sector to commercial and residential properties.
The Challenge
Dyer recognised that some of their employees would benefit from training, but, like many small businesses, they were worried about the time and cost of releasing their employees to go on courses.
The Solution
The company found out about the Learning and Skills Council Greater Manchester’s Employer Training Pilot – one of the schemes on which the new Train to Gain service is based. They signed up straight away, once they realised they could develop their employees, and get financial assistance through workforce development funding.
With the help of the Recruitment and Skills Unit at ChamberLink, Dyer was able to identify training courses that addressed their employees’ specific training requirements as well as the needs of the business.
One member of staff completed an IT qualification, and another did an NVQ Level 2 in Key Skills. All the training was conveniently scheduled around the business’ needs.
The Results
Since completing the training, the new skills the staff have gained are starting to have a positive impact on the business:
- Productivity has improved significantly.
- Employees are integrating what they’ve learnt into the day-to-day workings of the business and increasing opportunities for the company.
- Employees are more motivated and confident.
“The business has benefited in so many ways, we’re now considering using the service to develop our managers in the same way.”
Norman Walker, Director
